Thermal Power Generation at TEPCO is flexible to seasonal and hourly fluctuations
in electricity demand and it accounts for approximately 50% of TEPCO's total
energy output. TEPCO began using LNG as a source of energy that does not emit
smoke dust, or SOx, for electricity at its Minami-Yokohama Thermal Power Station
in 1969. This was the first time that LNG had ever been used for this purpose
in the world. TEPCO is dealing actively with environmental issues around the
Tokyo Metropolitan area and also uses the Advanced Combined Cycle power generation
system to make use of natural resources more efficiently.
