The Mainichi Shimbun published an article on December 2 asserting that the ""Withdrawal from the nuclear fuel reprocessing business" was agreed upon in 2002 during discussion between TEPCO executives and senior METI officials ".
However, we at TEPCO assert that such an announcement was never released and that there are no facts substantiating this agreement.

It is true that various internal discussions concerning the reprocessing business or among related parties from the viewpoint of energy security and its costs etc did take place.

However, there are no facts substantiating that discussions concerning the withdrawal from the reprocessing business or that an agreement to such an end was ever reached.

Our stance that the nuclear fuel cycle including reprocessing is important to the stable supply of energy and the effective use of energy resources has not changed.
