Press Release (Nov 27,2007)
Implementation of Geological and Ground Surveys at the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station and the Daini Nuclear Power Station following the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (Part II)
Following the occurrence of the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake on
July 16, 2007, The Tokyo Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO)
has decided to conduct geological surveys in land and sea areas
adjoining the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations in
a bid to supplement geological surveys conducted in the past and to
enhance our knowledge. On November 5, 2007, TEPCO has begun
execution of boring surveys on the station premises and soil
characteristics survey on the ground surface in areas adjoining the
nuclear power stations.
(Announced on August 17, 2007 and November 5, 2007)

TEPCO announces the plans for a maritime sonic prospecting in a sea
area adjoining the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power
Stations, as well as and subsurface exploration in a land area
adjoining the Stations.
In this set of survey, we will investigate subsurface structures in
the sea and land areas adjoining the Stations in order to reflect the
results in assessment of earthquake resistance and safety of the
nuclear power stations. Specifically, TEPCO will conduct a maritime
sonic prospecting, subsurface exploration using vibrator trucks, and
boring surveys on the south side of the Futaba fault.

Currently, the following schedule is set for the surveys:
 • Maritime sonic prospecting: December 3, 2007 - March 2008
 • Subsurface exploration: January 7, 2008 - March 2008
 • Boring surveys: early January 2008 - March 2008

TEPCO has submitted its plans for geological and ground surveys at
the Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations to the Nuclear
Power Station Safety Technical Meeting of Fukushima Prefecture held
on November 27, 2007.
