The Otemachi Marunouchi Yurakucho District Redevelopment Project Council (hereafter
"Council") and Tokyo Electric Power Company (hereafter "TEPCO") will start a
verification test of charging facilities for electric vehicles at underground parking
lots of private buildings in the Otemachi, Marunouchi and Yurakucho area (hereafter
"OMY area") on September 17, 2008.
The Council has been working on environmentally symbiotic urban development in full
cooperation with the community. TEPCO is currently conducting a joint research
project on commercial electric vehicles with Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (vehicle
name: "i MiEV") and Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. (vehicle name: "R1e") in order to
provide technical support for the spread of electric vehicles in the future.
In working on these efforts, the Council and TEPCO intend to achieve the development
of an environmentally friendly urban community where electric vehicles travel safely
by taking advantage of the know how of both organizations, and will conduct Japan's
first verification test of charging facilities for electric vehicles at underground
parking lots of private buildings.
Specifically, we will install a quick charger at the parking lot on the 2nd basement
of Shin-Marunouchi Building, and secure charging spaces equipped with power receptacles
(100V or 200V) for ordinary charging at eight parking lots (tentative) in the OMY area.
Through conducting this activity, we will evaluate and examine problems in installing
and operating charging facilities at underground parking lots of buildings.
