Regarding additional items about compensation for vehicles

We sincerely apologize to the people living in the surrounding areas of the power station and broader society for the concern and anxiety that has arisen on account of the accident at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Station.

Currently, we are achieving payments of compensation for some of the damaged vehicles (press released on February 7, 2012) At this time, the following items were added the vehicles to be compensated.
In addition, as soon as it is possible, we will release an announcement concerning special motor vehicles (heavy-construction-equipment and agricultural machines etc), small motor vehicle, and bicycles.

1. Revision of compensation for the vehicles that have been inoperable.
(1) Additional items to be compensated
a. We added the bikes to the vehicles to be compensated.
b. Due to the revision of evacuation order area*1, the vehicles in the area where have been changed to AREA3 (where it is expected that residents will face difficulties in returning for a long time, including the area more than 20km away from Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station) will be eligible.

(2) Change of procedure due to revision of evacuation order area
a. Concerning the vehicles in the AREA3, the registrations should be revoked permanently under the MLIT special measure*2.
b. Concerning the vehicles in the area where have been changed from restricted area to AREA2 (in which residents are not permitted to live) or AREA1 (to which evacuation orders are ready to be lifted), the vehicles are required to cancellation procedure because they are outside the scope of MLIT special measures. In addition, the vehicles which became inoperable due to lack of maintenance are required the record made by maintenance company and present failures.

2. Start of reparation payout for vehicles which became operable by fixing
(1) Vehicles to be compensated
Vehicles became operable by fixing in AREA3 or restricted area after the accident are to be compensated. However, the vehicles damaged by tsunami or earthquake are not included.

(2) Person Eligible for compensation.
The owner of the vehicle mentioned above.
However, in the case that users and owners were different, and the users fixed the vehicles, the users of the vehicles are eligible to claim.

(3) Calculation of compensation amount
We will compensate for repair cost and collateral cost within rational scope. In addition, the repair cost is within the purchase cost of an equivalent vehicle on the used car market.

3. Sending of billing documentation, etc.
We will begin to receive requests from May 7, 2012, we would appreciate if you could contact the "Fukushima Nuclear Compensation Office (Call Center)" listed at the end of this document to request for the billing document, etc., and for clarification about compensation of vehicles.

*1 Evacuation order area:
"(1) Evacuation area" and "(3) Deliberate evacuation area" included in "No.3 About the damage of instructions of the evacuation by the government" of "The interim guidelines governing nuclear disaster compensation coverage due to the accidents at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations"

*2 Special Measures by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, Transport & Tourism (MLIT) : The owners who own the vehicles in restricted area and AREA 3 is not able to access to their vehicles due to setting of those area according to the accident. These measures mean the permanent delete registration and notification of return by the owners who will not use or purchase the vehicles.
