Press Release (Dec 27,2012)
Submission of Changes to the Maintenance Plan for Units 5-6 at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

We have developed a maintenance plan for the "electric facilities for business use (nuclear power generation facilities) stipulated by the technical specification*1" in accordance with the Electricity Business Act and submitted changes to the plan to the Nuclear Regulation Authority and the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry today.

To be more specific, a "special maintenance plan*2 (Long-term storage plan)" has been developed for the equipment/facilities necessary to maintain cold shut down condition of the reactor considering that Units 5 and 6 of the nuclear power station are under suspension.

The equipment/facilities necessary for maintaining cold shut down condition will be adequately maintained based on the plan developed for enhanced reliability.

*1 Technical specification
Government-approved fundamental rules related to safety of electric facilities for business use which were set by electric utilities based on Article 42 of the Electricity Business Act. The technical specification is specified for each type of electric facilities for business use (nuclear power generation facilities and electric facilities for business use excluding nuclear power generation facilities). The maintenance plan is provided as an attachment of the technical specification [electric facilities for business use (nuclear power generation facilities)] for each plant where regular inspection is performed after April 1, 2010.

*2 Special maintenance plan
A special maintenance plan needs to be developed in the cases such as the following; when plant is suspended for a period longer than initially planned due to an earthquake or a long-term inspection, when implementing long-term storage measures for the entire facilities, when performing additional inspection on relatively wide variety of equipment.
