Press Release (Feb 15, 2013)Status of TEPCO's Nuclear Power Stations after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake (Daily Report as of 3:00 PM, February 15)

Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on April 17, 2011, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the accident and on July 19 we accomplished the Step1 target "Radiation dose is in steady decline". Then on December 16 we confirmed the accomplishment of the Step 2 target "Release of radioactive materials is under control and radiation doses are being significantly held down".
In addition, on December 21, 2011, we have compiled the "Mid-to-long-Term Roadmap toward the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4, TEPCO".
In addition to the maintenance of the plant's stable condition, we will implement Mid-to-Long Term countermeasures towards the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4 to enable evacuees to return to their homes as soon as possible and reduce the anxiety of the people in Fukushima and the whole nation as soon as possible.

Below is the status of TEPCO's nuclear power stations (Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini).

* The updates are underlined.

[Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station]
·Unit 1 to 4: Abolishment (April 19, 2012)
·Unit 5 to 6: Outage due to regular inspections before the earthquake

-At 6:55 AM on February 15, Unit 4 spent fuel pool alternative cooling system was suspended for valve inspection (pool water temperature when the system was suspended: 21.0℃). At 12:09 PM on the same day, cooling of the spent fuel pool was restarted after the inspection was completed and no problem has been found with its operation. There is no problem with the pool water temperature control since the pool water temperature remained the same before and after the suspension (21.0℃) and there is a sufficient margin to the maximum allowed temperature (65℃).

-At 10:50 AM on February 15, while carrying goods out of the large carry-in entrance in Unit 6 Reactor Building with its inside door (the door which opens by lifting up) open and its outside door closed, the inside door fell. The door which fell did not fall over. No injury has been reported due to the incident and the incident has not affected the plant condition. The condition of the inside door and the cause of its falling are currently being investigated.

-At 8:34 AM on February 12, the second cesium absorption apparatus (SARRY) was suspended for installation of an additional accumulated water transfer pump in the Central Radioactive Waste Treatment Facility (High Temperature Incinerator Building). Due to this, at 10:31 AM on the same day, the cesium absorption apparatus was started, and the steady flow rate was achieved at 10:44 AM. At 11:12 AM on February 15, the cesium absorption apparatus was stopped and the second cesium absorption apparatus was started accordingly at 1:07 PM. At 1:55 PM on the same day, the steady flow rate was achieved.

-At 12:35 PM on February 15, Unit 2 reactor injection water amount was adjusted as follows since the amount had fluctuated. Feed water system: Increased from approx. 1.8m3/h to approx. 2.0m3/h, Reactor core spray system: Increased from approx. 3.4m3/h to approx. 3.5m3/h.

-At 1:55 PM on February 15, we started transferring the accumulated water in Unit 3 Turbine Building basement to the Central Radioactive Waste Treatment Facility (Miscellaneous Solid Waste Volume Reduction Treatment Building [High Temperature Incinerator Building]).

[Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station]
·Unit 1 to 4: Shutdown due to the earthquake.

-At around 9:20 AM on February 15, a TEPCO employee preparing for nuclear disaster drill in a meeting on the second floor of the Administration Office Building Information Building hit his head on the equipment in the meeting room and got injured. Upon judgment of a doctor at the medical center in the power station, an ambulance was called at 9:36 AM on the same day and the employee was transported to Matsumura General Hospital. The employee went home after receiving medical treatment at the hospital.
