Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (May 17, 2013)Water Leakage Found around Units 5-6 Low Level Radioactive Accumulated Water Tank at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

At around 8:55 AM today (May 17), a TEPCO employee on patrol found water overflowing from the upper part of Units 5-6 RO treated water tank at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station.

The leakage has stopped after closing the valve at 9:00 AM.
The leaked water has been absorbed into the ground (gravels) in the surrounding area and the leakage amount is estimated to be approx. 27m3.

The water leaked is usually scattered within the power station site and the γ density and all β density of the water are below the detection limits (based on the sampling results obtained yesterday). Sampling of the water will be performed to ensure safety.
Cesium 137 detection limit: 1.5x10-3Bq/cm3
All β detection limit: 2.3x10-2Bq/cm3
