Press Release (Jun 10, 2013)Revisions of the calculation method of lost salaries (application of "special effort")

We sincerely apologize to the people living in the surrounding areas of the nuclear power stations and the broader society for the inconvenience and anxiety that have arisen on account of the accident at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations (hereinafter referred to as "the accident").

At present, a certain portion of the salary*1 earned after March 1, 2012 in a temporary job started after the accident is not subject to a deduction from the compensation amount for a lost salary that would have been earned if the accident did not occur (application of "special effort", as announced on June 21, 2012). Today, we announce revisions concerning periods applied to "special effort".

1. Individuals eligible for compensation
Those who worked or lived in the Designated Evacuation Zone*2 at the time of the accident and started new jobs after the accident, had salaries from these new jobs deducted from compensation amounts for lost salaries that would have been earned from March 2011 to February 2012 (including those who were not eligible for compensation for lost salaries from March 2011 to February 2012 due to excesses of their salaries earned from new jobs started after the accident over their lost salaries that would have been earned if the accident did not occur).

2. Payment amount
An amount deducted from the compensation amount for a lost salary since the amount corresponds to a salary earned from a new job started after the accident, limited to the lower of 500,000 yen a month and the lost salary (average monthly salary) that would have been earned.

3. Applicable period
A period, included in the period from March 2011 to February 2012, corresponding to a salary that was earned from a new job started after the accident and was deducted from the compensation amount for a lost salary.

4. Dispatch and acceptance of application form
We start sending out and accepting the application form today. We request those who need the application form to contact the "Fukushima Nuclear Compensation Office (Call Center)" below.
For those who not only agreed on the compensations for lost salaries corresponding to a period from March 2011 to February 2012, but also earned salaries from new jobs and agreed on the compensations for lost salaries after March 2013, a direct mail will be sent out for this announcement, separately.

*1 A certain portion of the salary:
A portion is determined so as not to exceed the upper limit that we set to 500,000 yen.

*2 Designated Evacuation Zone:
Defined by Clause 3 "Damages Arising from the Government Instructions for Evacuation etc." of the "Interim Criteria Guidelines for Determining the Range of Nuclear Damages due to the Accident at TEPCO Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations", against which the government gave instructions to evacuate.
