Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Jul 10, 2013)Tritium Density Result of Water Quality Survey inside the Port of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information 11)

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings of Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

As we obtained measurement results for tritium in samples taken on July 8 from the groundwater observation hole No.1-2, the newly installed groundwater observation hole No.1-4 (north of the groundwater observation hole No.1), and the groundwater observation hole No.2, and in samples taken on July 7 of seawater inside the port today (on July 10), we would like to make an announcement on those results.

As a result, the tritium density in the groundwater observation hole No.1-4 was 69,000Bq/L, which was lower than those in the groundwater observation holes No.1, No.1-1, and No. 1-2.

With regards the other results, detected densities were at the same levels as the previous analysis results (on the samples taken on July 5 from the groundwater observation hole No.1-2, on July 4 from the groundwater observation hole No.2, and on July 5 of seawater in the Unit 1-4 water intake north side and seawater between the water intakes of Units 1 and 2 (near the surface and near the bottom)).

We are continuing to tackle this problem in such manners as to intensely bring forward implementation of contamination prevention measures such as foundation improvement work to the bank protection, and comprehensively intensify the monitoring by using the results of additional boring to drill additional locations, and the analyses results on seawater at such locations as the port interior and the water outlets.
