Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Aug 06, 2013)Tritium Density Result of Water Quality Survey inside the Port of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information 30)

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings of Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

Today (on August 6), we obtained measurement results for the following substances in the following locations:
·γ nuclides and all-β in water sampled again from the groundwater observation holes No.1-5 (a sample taken on August 6)
·Tritium in the groundwater observation holes No.1, No.1-2, No.1-3, No.1-4, No.2, No.2-1, No.3, and No.3-1 (samples taken on August 1 and 2)
·γ nuclides and all-β in the groundwater observation holes No.1, No.1-2, No.1-3, No.1-4, No.2, and No.2-1 (samples taken on August 5)
·γ nuclides and all-β in seawater inside the port (other than seawater in the Unit 1-4 water intake north side and seawater between the water intakes of Units 1 and 2 (near the surface and near the bottom)) (samples taken on August 5)
·γ nuclides in the groundwater observation hole No.1-2 after filtering (a sample taken on August 5)

The γ nuclide and all-β densities in water sampled today (on August 6) from the groundwater observation holes No.1-5 (west of the groundwater observation holes No.1-3) were almost as high as the previous densities (in the sample taken on August 5). In addition, antimony was detected this time.

With regards to the other measured densities, no significant change was found compared to the previous densities.

‹Groundwater observation hole No.1-5>
- Sampling on August 6:
Cesium-134 260Bq/L
Cesium-137 540Bq/L
Antimony-125 6.7Bq/L
All-β 47,000Bq/L
- Sampling on August 5 (previously announced):
Cesium-134 310Bq/L
Cesium-137 650Bq/L
Antimony-125 ND (detection limit value: 6.4Bq/L)
All-β 56,000Bq/L

We are continuing to tackle this problem in such manners as to intensely bring forward implementation of contamination prevention measures such as foundation improvement work to the bank protection, and comprehensively intensify the monitoring by using the results of additional boring to drill additional locations, and the analyses results on seawater at such locations as the port interior and the water outlets.
