Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Sep 06, 2013)Jib Mast at the Tip of a Large Crane Bent Down at Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Correction on Chronological Order)

We would like to make a correction on chronological orders of the bent-down jib mast at the tip of a large-scale crane operated in debris removal in the upper part of Unit 3 Reactor Building at Fukushima Daiichi NPS, which was found on September 5.

<After correction>
At around 8:40 AM on September 5, a TEPCO employee found that the jib part (a crane arm) of a 600-ton crawler crane operated for debris removal in the upper part of Unit 3 Reactor Building has been bent down. At around 11:43 AM a TEPCO employee found that its connecting part to the main mast was damaged.

<Before correction>
At around 9:15 AM today (on September 5), a TEPCO employee found that the jib part (a crane arm) of a 600-ton crawler crane operated for debris removal in the upper part of Unit 3 Reactor Building has been bent down, and that its connecting part to the main mast was damaged.

<Information on the bent-down jib mast previously announced (after correction)>
At around 8:40 AM on September 5, a TEPCO employee found that the jib part (a crane arm) of a 600-ton crawler crane operated for debris removal in the upper part of Unit 3 Reactor Building has been bent down. At around 11:43 AM, a TEPCO employee found that its connecting part to the main mast was damaged.

Neither personal injury nor damage to other facilities has been reported. We found no abnormalities in the Unit 3 plant parameters, etc.

In order to bring the crane into a non-dangerous state, we shifted the bent-down jib part and the lifting hook part to different positions from 8:20 PM to 11:55 PM on September 5. We used another crane to lift up the bent-down jib and turn the crane around, so that the tip part of the jib and the lifting hook part were laid on the ground on the west of the Unit 3 Waste Treatment Building.
