Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Sep 06, 2013)Tritium Density Result of Water Quality Survey inside the Port of Fukushima Daiichi NPS (Follow-up Information 49)

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole located on the east of the Units 1-4 Turbine Buildings.

We would like to announce a tritium density measurement result on water in the groundwater observation hole No.1-9 located on the east of the Units 1-4 Turbine Buildings, sampled for the first time on September 3, as we obtained the result.

<Measurement results on the groundwater observation hole No.1-9: Sampled on September 3>
· Tritium: 670Bq/L
· Cesium-134: 170Bq/L (Previously announced on September 4)
· Cesium-137: 380Bq/L (Previously announced on September 4)
· All-β: 470Bq/L (Previously announced on September 4)

As a result of the measurement, it was found that the tritium density in the groundwater observation hole No.1-9 was low compared to the density in seawater inside the water intake channel.

We will monitor water in the above observation location by continuously sampling and analyzing the water.

We are continuing to tackle this problem in such manners as to intensely bring forward implementation of contamination prevention measures such as foundation improvement work to the bank protection, and comprehensively intensify the monitoring by using the results of additional boring to drill additional locations, and the analyses results on seawater at such locations as the port interior and the water outlets.
