Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Oct 03, 2013)Water Leak in Unit 5 Waste Treatment Building at Fukushima Daiichi NPS

At 11:10 AM today (on October 3), a TEPCO employee found water leaking from a drain pipe, which discharge cooling water for a pump bearing from water receiving part to the drain outlet, when the floor drain collecting pump (*) of Unit 5 Waste Treatment Building was activated.

(*) A pump used to transfer water which was flowed into the drain outlet installed on the floor of each building in order to perform a purification treatment

Currently, this pump is suspended, and the leakage from the drain pipe has stopped.

The range and the amount of the leakage are approx. 1m x 1m x 0.5mm and approx. 500ml, respectively. The water remains inside the dike, so there is no impact on the outside environment.

We will investigate the cause of the leakage.
