Press Release (Jan 20,2015)Regarding the fatal accident at Fukushima Daini NPS involving a cooperative company employee working in Units 1 and 2 waste treatment facility
On January 20, at around 9:30 A.M., an employee of a cooperative company was injured while inspecting the concentration apparatus*1
on the 5th floor of the Units 1 and 2 waste treatment facility (radiation controlled area*2
) an ambulance was called at 9:37 A.M. The ambulance arrived at the site at 9:50 A.M. and TEPCO received a message from the emergency medical assistance that it had requested an air ambulance at 9:52 A.M.
At 10:48 A.M., the worker was transported to Iwaki Kyoritsu Hospital by the air ambulance.
Later, his death was confirmed by a medical doctor at 11:57 P.M.
We pray that his soul rest in peace and express our sincere condolences to the family.
*1 concentration apparatus
Four facilities which reduce and contain the radioactive waste fluid that is created in the building are located on the 3rd and 4th floor of waste treatment facility.
*2 radiation controlled area
A managed area required in order to protect from unnecessary radioactive exposure and reduce any contamination by radioactive materials.
