Press Release (May 21, 2015)Conclusion of Memorandum with Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) on Cooperation in LNG Value Chain Business-TEPCO aims to commence its first overseas value chain business from procurement of LNG to electricity generation-

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has today concluded a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) regarding LNG value chain business, which covers the procurement, transportation and supply of LNG to electricity generation.
It represents the company's first undertaking to develop such an LNG value chain business overseas.

Since stating "promotion of overseas business" as one of its targets in the "FY 2014 TEPCO Group Action Plan" issued on March 31, 2014, TEPCO has been working to develop a new type of global generation business which would create a virtuous cycle along with fuel procurement.

In this context, TEPCO decided to enhance its cooperation with EGAT, which plans to build a new LNG thermal power station in Thailand and has been negotiating with TEPCO towards cooperation in LNG value chain business. Henceforth, the two companies will implement activities in accordance with the MOU, such as information exchange and mutual training courses, so as to create a synergistic effect.

TEPCO considers that its newly established entity "JERA Co., Inc." ("JERA") (established on April 30 2015 with Chubu Electric Power Co., Inc.), which aims to create the world's largest value chain business from fuel procurement to electricity generation, could utilize its merits in this area. The company said that the business will be transferred to "JERA" once preparations are completed.

TEPCO plans to proactively develop its overseas business and strengthen its revenue base towards enhancing profitability overseas, both to contribute to the world by utilizing its technology and know-how fostered inside and outside Japan, and to realize the revitalization of Fukushima as swiftly as possible.
