Hirono Thermal Power Station consists of oil fired plants (Unit 1 to 4) and coal fired plant (Unit 5) , and it’s total output is 3800MW. The power station is located in the nearest site to the epicenter among our thermal power stations and also had the biggest damage.
On March 11,2011, operating Unit 2 and 4 were shut down due to the earthquake, The power station had big damage such that inside turbine building was flooded and exposed to water by Tsunami, and debris are scattered widely in the site. After tsunami left, workers lost words because there was no power station which was used to be.
But after that the thermal power stations were requested to early re-start of operation as a important pillar to meet peak demand in summer time. Cooperated with Transmission, Distribution and other relating departments in our company, we got together workers at Hirono Power Station and started restoring work with strong mind of “ Get it ready by this summer”.
Manufacturers, general constructors, partner companies and we in a body achieved early restorations in short time by working together with breaking the companies barrier
◆Maximum 2800 workers engaged in restoration works here and there in the site.

◆Approximately 1000 people were temporally evacuated to Turbine floor
from the day of the disaster to next day.
◆The wide area in the site was subsided by the earthquake. The area is used as space for emergency power supply facilities.
