Why fuel debris needs to be retrieved?

Currently, fuel debris is being kept stable by injecting cooling water, etc. into the reactors.
However, it is feared that the risks associated with fuel debris will gradually increase as facilities age and degrade. In order to ensure long-term safety, the fuel debris must be retrieved, safely transported and stored. A small amount of fuel debris will first be removed on a trial basis from Unit 2 and subjected to analysis to ascertain the attributes of the fuel debris and learn how it was created. After this is done, the scale of retrieval will be enlarged.
