Press Release (Aug 05,2005)
Current Status of Major Uses of Asbestos at TEPCO
Tokyo Electric Power Co. (TEPCO) announced last Friday that the company
compiled and released the presently available results of its survey on
health hazards involving asbestos and major uses of asbestos for buildings
and facilities.
The survey results have also been reported to the Federation of Electric
Power Companies.

Regarding health hazards involving asbestos, no case has so far been
identified as subjected to the workers' accident compensation insurance
system for present and former employees of TEPCO and its group companies.
Among employees of other companies cooperating with TEPCO, however, one
has so far been identified as subjected to the insurance at a group company.
TEPCO is going to deal with people sincerely who are concerned or hope
to consult with TEPCO about health hazards of asbestos.

Major uses of asbestos at TEPCO are outlined by Exhibits.
Some of asbestos uses at TEPCO have been authorized at present because
they have existed since a period before the introduction of asbestos
regulations. Others have been authorized in the absence of relevant
regulations. Most of products using asbestos are not dispersible.
TEPCO has implemented measures against dispersion of asbestos based on
relevant laws and regulations when dismantling, transporting and disposing
buildings and facilities using asbestos.

TEPCO will continue to grasp asbestos uses and is going to take measures
systematically such as removal of asbestos, based on findings about
asbestos-used points and alternative products. TEPCO will also review
these efforts as necessary in consideration of revisions of laws and
regulations.
