Press Release (Mar 06,2006)
Permanent Elimination of No. 1 - 6 Units of Kawasaki Thermal Power Station and Others-- Upgrade to the More Advanced LNG Thermal Power Generating Facilities (MACC) for Kawasaki Thermal Power Station --

Tokyo Electric Power Company (TEPCO) has decided to permanently eliminate
the No. 1-6 Units of Kawasaki Thermal Power Station, as well as No. 2 Unit
and No. 2 Gas Turbine of the Yokosuka Thermal Power Station effective
March 27, 2006. TEPCO reported this elimination to the Minister of Economy,
Trade and Industry today. For the Kawasaki Thermal Power Station, an
upgrade to the more advanced LNG thermal power generating facilities (MACC)
is scheduled.

The situation of the electric power industry has become increasingly tough,
as evidenced by the fact that the scope of the retail liberalization of
electric power has been enlarged. TEPCO has been making an effort to
promote the efficiency of our overall management system. Such an effort
starts with the formation and operation of more efficient facilities while
ensuring a stable supply and energy security as prerequisites.
As part of such an endeavor, we have decided to permanently eliminate the
No. 1 - 6 Units of the Kawasaki Thermal Power Station as well as No. 2 Unit
and No. 2 Gas Turbine of the Yokosuka Thermal Power Station. These
generators have already been shutdown under a long-term plan as the
deterioration of their facilities has been noticeable.
We would like to express our sincere gratitude to the residents in the
community and other people concerned, for the understanding and cooperation
in the construction and the operation of these power plants. We will make
every effort to build power stations that are trusted by the public and are
deeply rooted in the local community.
