Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake (February 7th)
We are announcing the status of major inspections and restoration works and 
nonconformances at TEPCO's Kashiwazaki-Kariwa Nuclear Power Station after 
the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake.  

1. Inspection/Restoration Status

 ○ Inspection and restoration completed between February 1st to February 7th, 2008.  
    (Completed on the following date) 

  • Unit No.1 Fuel and control rod inspection (control rod racks): 
      February 5th 
  • Unit No.3 In-core inspection (Phase1 and 2): 
      February 5th
  • Unit No.4 In-core inspection (Phase3): 
      February 5th

 ○  Inspection and restoration to be commenced between February 8th to February 14th, 
    2008
    (To be commenced on the following date)  

  • Unit No.2 Main transformer inspection (preparation for transportation 
    into the factory): 
      February 12th 
  • Unit No. 3 Preparation for restoration work of oil protection bank for 
     the transformer:

2. Nonconformances Found in the Inspection and Restoration Works Performed after 
   the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake

   Based on the "Public Announcement Regarding Nonconformance Found in the Inspection 
   and Restoration Works Performed after the Niigata-Chuetsu-Oki Earthquake", the Tokyo 
   Electric Power Company, Incorporated (TEPCO) provides this announcement containing 
   incidents information reported from January 31st to February 6th, 2008.

○ Other Findings • Unit No.2: During a visual inspection of fuels in spent fuel pool using fiberscopes, 5 pieces of metallic material (with a maximum length of about 10mm and a diameter of about 0.2mm) were found in the spacer of one of the fuel bundles by January 15th, 2008. As a result of the inspection of fuels, no abnormally was found. (The inspection of the fuel assembly was completed on February 1st, 2008.) • Unit No.7: During a visual inspection of fuels in spent fuel pool using fiberscopes, a piece of metallic material (in spirals, with a maximum length of about 40mm and a diameter of about 0.2mm) were found in the spacer of one of the fuel bundles on February 6th, 2008.
