Press Release (Mar 13,2011)
Implementation of rolling blackout and request for further energy saving
Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyo-Oki Earthquake occurred on March 11,
our power supply facilities including Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power
Station, Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station, and our transmission
facilities are severely damaged. As such, the power supply-demand
balance within our service area has been getting very critical.

We have been taking all measures to ensure the stable power supply
including receiving electricity from other utilities through frequency
converting station. Also, the national government has been asking
people and industry to cooperate in energy savings.

However, considering the critical balance of our power supply capacity
and expected power demand forward, in order to avoid unexpected blackout,
TEPCO has decided to implement rolling blackout (planned blackout
alternates from one area to another). We sincerely regret to cause the
anxiety and inconvenience to our customers and the society despite our
endeavor to avoid blackout. We will make every effort to restore stable
power supply as soon as possible.

On March 14th (Monday)
Regional block and time periods planned to have rolling blackout are as
follows (and as per attached). The actual extension of blackout for each
block are planned to be approximately 3 hours each.
For customers who will be subject to rolling blackout, please be prepared
for the announced blackout periods. Also for customers who are not subject
to blackouts, TEPCO appreciates your continuous cooperation in reducing
electricity usage by avoiding using unnecessary lighting and electrical
equipment.
