Status of TEPCO's Facilities and its services after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake (as of 9:00 AM, May 12)
 
Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 
11th 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have 
been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and 
inconvenience caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on 
April 17th, we have put together the roadmap towards restoration from the 
accident. By bringing the reactors and spent fuel pools to a stable 
cooling condition and mitigating the release of radioactive materials, we 
will make every effort to enable evacuees to return to their homes and for 
all citizens to be able to secure a sound life.
 
Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities.

[Nuclear Power Station]
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station:
  Units 1 to 3: shutdown due to the earthquake 
  (Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections) 
 
- Okuma Line No.2 (275,000 V) has been restored. Since 3:20 pm on May 11th, 
  Unit 1 and 2 are receiving power partly from the line. 
 
- At 12:30 pm on May 11th, a worker engaged in blocking work of the  
  vertical shaft around the water intake of Unit 3 found some water 
  flowing through the pipes that store power cables into the vertical 
  shaft. At 4:05 pm on the same day, we confirmed that the water outflows 
  out of the shaft into the sea. We therefore inserted cloths into the 
  pipes that lead to the shaft and put some concrete in it and at 6:45 pm, 
  we confirmed the outflow had stopped. We will continuously monitor the 
  situation of the water outflow and check the result of sea water 
  samplings around the water intake of Unit 3 and routes of water inflow 
  and outflow. 
 
- From 4:07 pm on May 11th, we sprayed water into the spent fuel pool of 
  Unit 4 with the concrete pumping vehicle (from 4:07 pm to 7:36 pm, 
  hydrazine was also injected). 
 
- At 10:00 am on May 11th, we restarted the transfer of the accumulated 
  water on the basement in the turbine building of Unit 6 to the temporary 
  tank. At 4:00 pm on the same day, we stopped the transfer pumps 
  (approximately 120m3). 
 
- From 11:00 am to 12:30 pm on May 11th, we transferred the accumulated 
  water on the basement in the turbine building of Unit 6 to the Radiation 
  Waste Treatment Building (approximately 10m3). 
 
- On May 11th, we sprayed the dust inhibitor to approximately 5,250m2 areas 
  including nearby Solid Waste Storing Facility in a conventional way.
Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station:
  Units 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake
Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station:
  Units 1, 5, 6, 7: normal operation 
  (Units 2 to 4: outage due to regular inspection)
[Thermal Power Station] 
- Hirono Thermal Power Station Unit 2 and 4: Shutdown due to the earthquake
- Hitachinaka Thermal Power Station Unit 1: Shutdown due to the earthquake
[Hydro Power Station] 
- Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the 
  earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.
[Impacts on Transmission Facilities] 
- Power supply has returned to normal and facilities damaged by the 
  earthquake are now being handled in a timely manner.
[Avoidance of further Implementation on Planned Rolling Blackouts and 
 Request for Conserving Electricity Consumption] 
Currently, we are working to restore electricity supply after our nuclear 
and thermal power facilities were severely damaged by Tohoku-Chihou-
Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake. The widespread understanding and cooperation of 
our customers to conserve electricity have contributed to the improvement 
of this tight power supply-demand balance situation.
Amidst this backdrop, since the electricity supply will be able to balance 
with the demand for the time being, we have decided not to implement 
further rolling blackouts in principle.
However, we sincerely ask for your continued cooperation in reducing 
electricity consumption due to the possible increase in demand caused by 
warmer weather or unexpected trouble at power stations that are currently 
being restored to service. In case the electricity supply-demand balance 
becomes tighter than expected, we may regrettably need to restart the 
implementation of rolling blackouts, with prior notice. We kindly ask for 
your cooperation.
We will do our best to maintain this policy of avoiding further 
implementation of rolling blackouts during the summer.
