Press Release (May 25,2011)
Invocation of Article 27 of Electricity Business Act
We have been making full-fledged efforts to secure power supply to cope
with the situation that lots of power plants were suspended due to the
Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyo-Oki Earthquake. However, stable power supply in
this summer might be impaired due to unplanned outage of aged thermal
power plants caused by their continuous operation and sudden increase in
demand caused by abnormally extreme heat.
                                          (Previously announced on May 13)

Based on such situations, it was announced today that "Restriction on
consuming electricity" stipulated in the Article 27 of Electricity
Business Act will be invocated to each of electricity users whose contact
capacity is equivalent to or more than 500kW of electricity in the supply
area of Tokyo Electric Power Company and Tohoku Electric Power Company
from 9 am to 8 pm in weekdays from July 1, 2011 to September 22, 2011 (in
our supply area).
We sincerely apologize to any affected parties in corporations and public
institutions for lots of their inconvenience and troubles to refrain from
their power demand due to the invocation. We request that they understand
and cooperate with the invocation of "Restriction on consuming electricity"

We will provide maximum assistance with any affected customers by our
consulting service, information offering, facility inspection and their
taking out contracts for control of demand and supply to reduce by 15%* of
their maximum demand.
*The maximum demand is compared with that in the same term and period of
 time in the last year.

The announced "Restriction on consuming electricity" will not cover any
electricity users with their contact capacity of less than 500kW of
electricity or those in the general household. However, we request that
each customer understand and cooperate with 15% reduction of its maximum
power demand to continue "No implementation of rolling blackouts in
principle."
