Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March
11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been
severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience
caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on
April 17, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the
accident and then we updated the progress status of roadmap considering the
current situation, on July 19. Accomplishment of the Step1 target
"Radiation dose is in steady decline" has been confirmed. On August 17, we
updated the further progress.
By bringing the reactors and spent fuel pools to a stable cooling condition
and mitigating the release of radioactive materials, we will make every
effort to enable evacuees to return to their homes and for all citizens to
be able to secure a sound life.
Below is the status of TEPCO's major facilities.

[Nuclear Power Station]
Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1 to 3: shutdown due to the earthquake
(Units 4 to 6: outage due to regular inspections)
- At 9:39 am on August 21, 2011 we started transferring accumulated water
from the basement of the turbine building of Unit 3 to Miscellaneous
Solid Waste Volume Reduction Treatment Building (High Temperature
Incinerator Building). In addition, at 4:15 pm on August 23, we started
transferring accumulated water from the basement of the turbine building
of Unit 3 to Centralized Radiation Waste Treatment Facility (Process Main
Building).
- At approximately 4:00 pm August 23, 2011, we confirmed that Water
Desalination 1B (Type of Reverse Osmosis Membrane) had stopped. At 6:20
pm on the same day, we restarted it.
Fukushima Daini Nuclear Power Station:
Units 1 to 4: shutdown due to the earthquake
Kashiwazaki Kariwa Nuclear Power Station:
Units 5, 6: normal operation
(Units 1 to 4 and 7: outage due to regular inspection)

[Impacts on Transmission Facilities]

[Perspective of Power Supply and Demand Balance in this Summer]
In regard to the supply side in this summer, taking in account of the
acceleration of restoration schedule for Hirono Thermal Power Station, more
purchase of privately generated power, and excluding the power supply from
60Hz areas which had been planned (due to the current difficult situation),
supply capacity outlook is amended to 55.8GW at the end of August.
Also, in order to ensure the supply and demand balance in the Tohoku area
that have sustained severe damages from the earthquake and torrential rains,
we would like to supply maximum electricity to Tohoku Electric Power
Company by thoroughly implementing both supply and demand countermeasures.
Estimated peak demand of 55GW for this summer is 5GW lower than that of
last year. This incorporates the saving of electricity from "Outline of
Countermeasures for Power Supply and Demand During Summertime" and
restoration from decrease of production due to the quake.
As the occurrence of unplanned outage of aged thermal power stations or
sudden increase of demand due to unexpected high temperature during summer
may cause difficulties in maintaining stable demand supply balance, in
order to continue to avoid planned blackouts, we will steadily maintain
supply capacity, and continue our efforts on reliable operation and
maintenance of power facilities.
