Press Release (Dec 12,2011)
Receipt of additional directive document regarding the leak of water containing radioactive material from the water desalination apparatus(evaporative concentration apparatus) of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Plant
Regarding the event which leakage of water containing radioactive
materials at the water desalination apparatus (evaporative concentration
apparatus) of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station on December 4, we
have received the directive document*1 from NISA "Regarding Response to
Leakage of Water Containing Radioactive Materials from Evaporation
Concentration Device at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station
(Direction)".
We have announced the result (provisional) of the evaluation on the
outflow of water containing radioactive materials into the sea which was
leaked from the water desalination apparatus (evaporative concentration
apparatus).
Thereafter, in accordance with the directive document received, while we
continue to investigate the cause of the leakage and establish
countermeasures and investigation of the soundness of other facilities,
and on December 8, we have reported to NISA regarding the result on the
instructed items as of the date.
(Previously announced on December 5, 6 and 8)

Today, we have received the directive document*2 from NISA "Regarding
Response to Report on Leakage of Water Containing Radioactive Materials
from Evaporation Concentration Device at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power
Station (Direction)".

We will take steps in accordance with the directive hereafter, compile the
contents, and report to NISA by January 31, 2012.

                                                                       End

Station (Direction)"
                                                     (05.12.2011 NA No. 1)
On December 4, 2011, the Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency (NISA)
received a report from Tokyo Electric Power Co., Inc. (TEPCO) stating that
leakage of water containing radioactive materials from an evaporation
concentration device at Fukushima Dai-ichi Nuclear Power Station was
identified.
In light of the event of leakage of water containing radioactive materials
to outside, NISA requests your company to take measures as described below
and to promptly report the results of the measures to NISA in order of
implementation.
Required Items
1.To investigate the cause of the occurrence of the leakage and to take
   recurrence prevention measures
2.In view of the fact that the leakage was identified at the weir that
had been built to prevent the spread of leakage from the evaporation
concentration device, to immediately confirm integrity of other weirs
and repair them as required, as well as to formulate and implement the
future response plan concerning prevention of leakages from weirs such
as strengthening on-site inspections and installation of leakage
   detectors
3.To verify the range and amount of the leakage identified this time
including the possibility of release into the sea, and to assess the
impact of radioactive materials on the environment
