Start of Compensation for Voluntary Evacuation in Marumori Town in Miyagi Prefecture

We deeply apologize to the people of Fukushima and broader society for the tremendous inconvenience and anxiety caused by the accident at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Nuclear Power Stations (hereinafter referred to as "the accident").

We are in the process of providing swift and accurate compensation payouts to those afflicted by nuclear damage under the framework of the nuclear damage compensation system including the Nuclear Damage Liability Facilitation Fund Law. Regarding the compensation for voluntary evacuation, etc., Marumori Town in Miyagi Prefecture which is out of the voluntary evacuation zone, etc. specified by the "Interim Guidelines for the Scope of Nuclear Damages due to the Accident at Fukushima Daiichi and Daini Power Stations (Compensation for voluntary evacuation, etc.)" will now be eligible for receiving compensation.

1. Eligible individuals
Those who had their main residence in Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture and were 18 years old or younger*1 or were pregnant*2 at the time of the accident.

2. Compensation amount
As the compensation for the following damages occurred from March 11 to December 31, 2011, 200,000yen will be paid per person (across the board).

1) In the case of voluntary evacuation*3
- Increase in the living expenses due to voluntary evacuation
- Emotional distress caused by normal daily life being disturbed due to voluntary evacuation
- Transportation fee incurred at the time of evacuation or going home

2) In the case of remaining in Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture (Those who never evacuated)
- Emotional distress caused by the fear or anxiety for radiation exposure and restricted freedom of action which lead to normal daily life being disturbed
-Increase of living expenses caused by the fear or anxiety for radiation exposure and restricted freedom of action

3. Dispatch and acceptance of application forms
For those who were registered as citizens of Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture and were 18 years old or younger at the time of the accident, application forms with the name and address (at the time of the accident) printed will be sent out on August 20, 2012 (the acceptance of the application forms will start on the same day). Please sign, place a seal and provide the bank account information, etc. on the application form and sent it back to us.
For those who were 18 years old or younger but were not registered as citizens of Marumori Town, Miyagi Prefecture or were pregnant, application forms will be sent upon request*4. Please contact "Fukushima Nuclear Compensation Office (Call Center)" below.

*1 Those who were 18 years old or younger: Those who were born between the period of March 12, 1992 and December 31, 2011.
*2 Those who were pregnant: Those who were pregnant during the period between March 11 to December 31, 2011.
*3 Voluntary evacuation: Evacuation not based on instructions by the government, etc.
*4 In the case that there is someone who was 18 years old or younger registered as a citizen in the same household at the time of the accident, please be sure to add the person to the application form.
