Status of TEPCO's Nuclear Power Stations after the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake (Daily Report as of 3:00 PM, October 15)
Due to the Tohoku-Chihou-Taiheiyou-Oki Earthquake which occurred on March 11, 2011, TEPCO's facilities including our nuclear power stations have been severely damaged. We deeply apologize for the anxiety and inconvenience caused.
With regard to the accident at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, on April 17, 2011, we have compiled the roadmap towards restoration from the accident and on July 19 we accomplished the Step1 target "Radiation dose is in steady decline". Then on December 16 we confirmed the accomplishment of the Step 2 target "Release of radioactive materials is under control and radiation doses are being significantly held down".
In addition, on December 21, 2011, we have compiled the "Mid-to-long-Term Roadmap toward the Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4, TEPCO".
In addition to the maintenance of the plant's stable condition, we will implement Mid-to-Long Term countermeasures towards the decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Units 1-4 to enable evacuees to return to their homes as soon as possible and reduce the anxiety of the people in Fukushima and the whole nation as soon as possible.

Below is the status of TEPCO's nuclear power stations (Fukushima Daiichi and Fukushima Daini).

[Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station]
· Unit 1 to 4: Abolishment (April 19, 2012)
· Unit 5 to 6: Outage due to regular inspections before the earthquake

- At 6:07 AM on October 15, we stopped cooling of the spent fuel pool, since we additionally installed valves, inspected the check valve and installed drain pipes at Unit 2 spent fuel pool alternative cooling system. We will suspend cooling until October 20. The pool water temperature at the time of stopping was approx. 23.0 ℃, we estimated that the rate of increase in the pool water temperature was approx. 0.22℃/h and the water temperature increased approx. 28.9 ℃. Since this temperature was low enough compared to the operational limit value (65 ℃), there was no problem with the pool water temperature control.

- On October 15, a worker form cooperative company found a water leakage in a corridor which was located at the back of the large equipment hatch on Unit 3 Turbine Building 1st floor. At 10:10 AM on the same day, a worker of TEPCO confirmed it. At 10:18 AM on the same day, we stopped the pump transferring the accumulated water from Unit 3 Turbine Building basement to the Central Radioactive Waste Treatment Facility (the Miscellaneous Solid Waste Volume Reduction Treatment Building [High Temperature Incinerator Building]), and the leakage was stopped at 11:16 AM on the same day. The leaked water remained on the floor on downside of the slope at the back of the large equipment hatch, and there was no leak to the outside of the building. We confirmed that the leakage was took place at the accumulated water transfer line from Unit 3 Turbine Building basement to the Central Radioactive Waste Treatment Facility*. The range of the leakage was approx. 3m x approx. 6m and the depth was approx. 5mm. We estimated that the leakage amount was approx. 90l. The results of the leaked water nuclide analysis were as follows.

Cesium 134: 1.0 x 104 Bq/cm3
Cesium 137: 1.8 x 104 Bq/cm3

We judged that the leaked water was the accumulated water at the Turbine Building.

· Unit 1 to 4: Shutdown due to the earthquake.
