Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Apr 09, 2013)Water Leak from the Underground Reservoirs in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station (Follow-up Information No.21)

This is follow-up information regarding the water leak from the underground reservoirs at Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

The water samples collected this morning in the drain hole (2 locations) and the leakage detection hole (2 locations) of the underground reservoir No.1 have been analyzed.

As a result, the chloride concentration of the water in the leakage detection hole (in the northeast side) has increased from 4ppm to 910ppm.

The water transfer from the underground reservoir No.2 to No.1 utilizing temporary pumps was suspended at 12:47 PM today.

We are currently investigating the cause and countermeasures.

The water level, etc. of the underground reservoir of concern will continue to be monitored intensively.

Today, an emergency press conference will be held at the Head Office and in Fukushima as soon as preparation is complete to explain about the condition of the underground reservoirs at Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station. The time of the press conference is to be announced later.
