Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Aug 17, 2013)Status of Pumping up of Groundwater from the Well Point at the East Side of Unit 1, 2 Turbine Building in Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station

This is follow-up information on the latest situation concerning the detection of high densities of Tritium and Strontium in the observation hole at the east side of the Unit 1-4 Turbine Buildings of Fukushima Daiichi NPS.

At 11:35 AM on August 15, we started pumping up groundwater from one well point (pumping facility using a vacuum) installed east of Units 1 and 2 Turbine Buildings and transferring the pumped-up groundwater to the Unit 2 vertical shaft C.

<Previously announced>

Later, 12 well points were added at 11:10 AM on August 16, and 9 well points were added at 11:05 AM on August 17. Groundwater was pumped up from total 22 well points and was transferred to the Unit 2 vertical shaft C.

Initially, we were planned to install all of 28 well points by August 18. However, installation of all the well points is estimated to be completed by next week, since drilling machine was failed due to a contact with a hard rock.

An alternative machine will be used to drill the well points from August 19.

Water level of the groundwater observation hole No.1-8, which locates the sea side of the well point, after groundwater was pumped up from the well point is as follows.

<Groundwater observation hole No.1-8> (*The amounts are provisional value, since the reference altitude is still being confirmed)

- O.P. +2,750mm (as of 2:00 PM on August 15, previously announced)
1 well point has already installed
- O.P. +2,760mm (as of 2:00 AM on August 16)
1 well point has already installed
- O.P. +2,670mm (as of 2:00 PM on August 16)
13 well points have already installed
- O.P. +2,530mm (as of 2:00 AM on August 17)
13 well points have already installed
- O.P. +2,360mm (as of 2:00 PM on August 17)
22 well points have already installed
