Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report 2013

Fukushima Daiichi NPS Prompt Report (Nov 23, 2013)Shutdown of Nitrogen Gas Separation Apparatus at Fukushima Daiichi NPS (From First Issue to Follow-up Information)

At around 3:57 PM today (on November 23), the nitrogen gas separation apparatus (A) out of the two nitrogen gas separation apparatuses (A and B) then in operation, which are used for injecting nitrogen into the reactor pressure vessels and reactor containment vessels of the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station Units 1 to 3, was shut down upon activation of an alarm indicating "abnormal overcurrent or high-voltage cut-off occurred to the drier".

The nitrogen gas separation apparatus (C), which had been on standby, was started up at 5:03 PM today, and nitrogen supply using the two nitrogen gas separation apparatuses (B and C) was started at 5:12 PM today. No abnormality has been found in the operation of these apparatuses since then.

Further, neither the plant data (such as hydrogen concentrations in the reactor containment vessels and temperatures inside the reactor containment vessels) nor the monitoring post readings have shown any significant change.

We will start investigating the cause of the shutdown of the nitrogen gas separation apparatus (A) in detail tomorrow.
