Press Release (Jan 07, 2015)The International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) to Conduct Evaluation on the Operational Safety of Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS Units 6 and 7 and the Third Review of TEPCO's Steps towards Decommissioning of Fukushima Daiichi NPS Units 1 to 4

We would like to announce that the IAEA operational safety review will be carried out for the Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS to evaluate its ongoing safety activities performed at the site for the purpose of improving the safety culture in light of the accident at Fukushima Daiichi NPS. In addition, the IAEA will be reviewing our decommissioning activities which are proceeding in accordance with the "Mid-and-Long-Term Roadmap towards the Decommissioning of TEPCO's Fukushima Daiichi NPS Units 1-4".

The operational safety review planned to be conducted at Kashiwazaki-Kariwa NPS is an on-site evaluation conducted by a review team consisting of IAEA and global experts. The review will investigate in detail all activities relating to operational safety performed at the target power station with a view to enhancing the safety culture of NPSs not only at TEPCO, but worldwide. We, at TEPCO, are willing to make further improvements and enhancements in such operational safety as recommended by the review, the result which is to be presented based on the reviewers' global knowledge, wisdom and experiences. In terms of the review dates and items to be reviewed, etc., the details will be determined shortly upon coordination with the IAEA. 

With regards to the review on the decommissioning activities performed at Fukushima Daiichi NPS, the upcoming review will be its third following the ones conducted in April and November, 2013. The actual review by the IAEA and global experts is scheduled to include meetings in Tokyo and on-site investigation of the said power station in the middle of February, 2015.
