Things you should know more about decommissioning
Question

What kind of robots have been used in decommissioning work?

  • Decommissioning work

Answer

At the Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, we are using remotely operated technology (robots, etc.) in the course of decommissioning to carry out many difficult and complicated tasks in high-dose environments. For example, we inserted cameras through penetration holes in to the containment vessel to investigate conditions directly underneath the reactor, and have used robots to measure dose levels in the high dose locations, and to actually grab (and move) debris. Using robots in lieu of people to investigate the inside of the reactor buildings contributes to reducing work risks such as exposure.
