Things you should know more about decommissioning
Question

How are the lessons learned from the accident being used?

  • Accident
  • Safety measures

Answer

The underlying causes of the accident were a lack of “safety awareness,” “technological capability,” and “the ability to promote dialogue.” TEPCO has reached the conclusion that it was “convinced that it had already achieved safety, and perceived operating rate as a key management issue thereby resulting in a lack of preparation for accidents.”
Our approach to safety has changed as follows after reflecting upon the accident.
“All safety measures should begin by assuming that an accident will happen, rather than assuming the opposite.”
As a result, we approach safety as follows.
“Keep the Fukushima Nuclear Accident firmly in mind; we should be safer today than we were yesterday, and safer tomorrow than today, and become an operator that continues to create unparalleled levels of safety.”
