Question

What happens to "fuel debris" after it is retrieved?

  • Fuel debris retrieval

Answer

In order to shield and seal off radioactive substances, retrieved fuel debris will be inserted into sealed metal containers after which it will be relocated to an on-site storage facility and stored in a sealed room manufactured from steel or concrete (dry storage).
We will coordinate with the government to decide on what to do with the stored fuel debris based upon the results of deliberations on disposal methods and in light of investigations and research and development achievements.
