Enhancing Management Efficiency at Thermal Power Stations in India

Project Overview

India has set a renewable energy target of 175 GW, to be reached by 2022 (100 GW for solar power and 60 GW for wind power). As is the case in other countries, the number of solar and wind power stations in India continues to rise at a rapid pace as the price of renewable energy drops. Therefore, the existing coal-fired thermal power stations are now required to operate in load-following mode.
Given the current situation, the overall thermal efficiency of the existing coal-fired thermal power stations is expected to decline in the future.
In order to assist in finding solutions to the issues that India is currently facing, TEPCO Group carried out demonstration tests with the aim of using IoT technologies to perform big data analyses that would serve to maintain performance levels and understand the factors driving performance deterioration. The tests also focused on other types of methods, such as long-term monitoring of operational data to spot early signs of performance deterioration.
