Project for Building Highly Efficient Thermal Power Stations in Thailand

Project Overview

Since there are plans to renovate the Mae Moh power station operated by the Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT), our goal is to introduce IGCC (two units operating at 500 MW), a cutting-edge clean coal technology that Japan prides itself on.
IGCC technology boasts the highest thermal efficiency level in the world among coal-fired thermal facilities. This technology allows us to use a wide variety of coal types, including some which could not be used in the past such as low-grade coal. It represents a power generation method with excellent environmental performance, since it significantly reduces greenhouse gases such as CO2 and air pollutant emissions (NOx, SOx, and soot). The technology also reduces by half the amount of residual material (fly ash) generated after coal is burned. In addition, the residual material can be effectively used to produce cement and sub-base course materials.
