The global movement to evaluate business activities with biodiversity in mind underscores the need to achieve “Nature Positive,” which means shifting financial flows from harming nature to restoring it. TEPCO Group’s energy supply operations, including the installation and management of extensive facilities, are closely linked to both reliance on and impact on natural capital.
Looking ahead, we will strengthen nature-related disclosures in alignment with the TNFD framework and implement business operations based on the TEPCO Group Action Guidelines for Biodiversity Conservation (established in April 2024) to contribute to achieving the global “30 by 30” target.
For details on these guidelines and our latest biodiversity initiatives, please refer to the “TEPCO BIODIVERSITY REPORT 2024” (published May 2024).

Preventing Deforestation

From the perspective of direct deforestation prevention, the TEPCO Group complies with applicable forestry laws and regulations when forest development is required for facility installation, and implements conservation measures to maintain the diverse ecological functions of forests. We also continue to conserve and manage water source forests, including those in Oze National Park. From an indirect prevention perspective, we promote Green Procurement*by sourcing paper and wood materials that support sustainable forest management.

Mitigating Development Impacts

Construction of power plants and transmission facilities may alter land and affect biodiversity. In compliance with applicable environmental laws, the TEPCO Group minimizes biodiversity impacts through stakeholder engagement, consensus-building, and science-based environmental assessments. We follow the mitigation hierarchy—avoidance, minimization, and compensation—to implement appropriate conservation measures.

Mitigating Facility-Related Impacts

Emissions of environmentally hazardous substances from facilities may affect biodiversity. The TEPCO Group complies with emission standards and regulatory limits and implements long-term measures to reduce environmental impacts, including efforts to make renewable energy a primary power source and cut greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. We also manage green spaces at our facilities to help preserve the environment and maintain the landscape.
