Water Sources Significantly Affected <GRI 303-1>
At the TEPCO Group’s hydropower plants, river water is withdrawn for power generation and managed responsibly in line with the "River Maintenance Flow Guidelines.” All water withdrawn is fully returned to the river without any consumption, ensuring that no water sources are significantly affected by our withdrawals. We verify through WRI Aqueduct’s Water Risk Atlas that the TEPCO Group does not withdraw water from water-stressed regions.
For Reference
Water Bodies and Related Habitats Potentially Affected<GRI 303-2>
Wastewater from power plants is treated at TEPCO facilities in compliance with relevant laws and regulations and discharged only after confirming no environmental impact. Contaminated water generated at the Fukushima Daiichi is properly treated and stored in on-site tanks, with no external leakage or discharge, ensuring no impact on water bodies or related habitats.
In July 2024, the IAEA published its report on the second review mission since the start of ALPS-treated water discharge, confirming that no issues were found to be inconsistent with relevant international safety standards.
Some hydroelectric plants discharge water into different river systems; however, operations are managed in accordance with the “River Maintenance Flow Guidelines,” limiting impacts on river basins.
